Whether you decide on a one piece (maillot), tankini or camikini, select one size up
from your normal size. Aim for what fits and know your body's
limitations. Too much exposed flesh is not always desirable or
attractive.

Coordinate your swimsuit with a stylish cover-up -
not the basic white terrycloth standby. Wrap your body in a
contrasting sarong or swimskirt. Shorter styles are trendier such as a
cute baby doll dress, batik caftan, hooded tunic or an eyelet smock.

Bra guidelines:
-
Spaghetti strap tops, thin strap sundresses, camisoles and wispy
fabrics need a disappearing bra such as strapless bra or clear
strap. Bra straps sticking out of clothing is tacky and unsightly
especially when colors clash or straps are stretched out.
-
Special occasion dresses with plunging necklines or low backs
require investing in the proper bra which is just as important as
finding the right shoes. Don’t try to rig up your everyday bra with
safety pins – the bra will never stay put. Be comfortable and self
assured knowing that the right bra is secure (so you won’t be
constantly fussing with it).
-
A
camisole is NOT a bra and will not offer support. If you like the
look of layering a camisole under a sweater or shirt, opt for a
strapless bra (unless you don’t intend to take off your outer piece.

Wardrobe Woe:
A stay-at-home mom, Cathy wanted
a nice casual wardrobe. She found it hard to find clothing
and shoes for her 5’10” frame and size 12 foot. She hadn’t
purchased anything in three to four years. “I turned into a
frumpy middle-aged woman and I am tired of looking this way.
I wanted to be able to get rid of the clothing that wasn’t
right for me and feel good about how I look,” Cathy said.
The Fashion Fix: Cathy
needed a casual wardrobe that was stylish and flattered her
transition body as she was dieting. Her eyeglasses needed
updating which would give her a more youthful look and she
wanted some coaching on the right shoes for various outfits.
“It was a fun experience and even a pleasure getting rid of
the old. I guess the thing that amazed me the most was my
inability to see the options with what was left and how
quickly Paula did,” said Cathy.
On our shopping trip, Cathy went home with 13 tops, five
pants, one skirt and one necklace for a total of $512. We
visited the vision center for suggestions on what eyeglass
frames were appropriate for her face shape.
“The words that come to mind about working with Paula are:
professional, effective, economical, efficient, honest, and
flattering without being artificial. Paula is a pleasure to
work with. I hate to shop with a passion and she made it fun
for me. What a convenience to be able to stay in the
dressing room as Paula brought in choices after choices. At
the end of the session we reviewed what fit, what outfits
looked best, what would fit into my budget and made our
final decisions. I just could not have done it without
Paula. Since our shopping trip I have gotten so many
compliments from friends and family as well as strangers!
For a woman who hates to shop, I sure look good,” enthused
Cathy. ■
