Trends
The swim skirt is gaining
popularity
for its slimming effect. It looks like a
skirt worn over a bathing suit bottom but it is actually the
skirt and panty combined to replace the solo panty bottom
(similar to a tennis skirt).
Swim season colors include
from bright palettes to earth tones. Ethnic influences,
vintage inspired prints and fabrics, and bohemian looks with
embellishments are novel. The key silhouette is the tankini,
which has the advantage of a two-piece but looks like a one
piece. Look for extra Lycra (for stretch) in the fabric of
the swimsuit. Lycra helps the suit keep its shape and
combats the effects of chlorine.
Accessories
Complete your swimsuit
ensemble with a coordinating cover-up (sarong, mesh tank
dress), sandals and beach bag. Before you bask in the sun,
don't forget the sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen to protect
your skin. ■ |

shopping list to fill in the
gaps of needed items, or in some cases, whole new outfits.
The shopping list aids the client in knowing what to buy.
For the client who needs help shopping, I formulate a game
plan of what needs to be purchased. Once in the stores, I
pull dozens of garments for them to try on. The client goes
into the dressing room and I review everything that they
have tried on. I strive for putting whole outfits together.
Once garments are selected, I concentrate on shoes and
accessories. In a handful of hours, the client walks away
with shopping bags full of new clothing and accessories.
In the end, the client benefits
from the educational process of:
-
learning to recognize
appropriate styling and colors
-
having a more organized
closet so that they can dress quickly
-
a better understanding of
how to mix and match
-
having productive shopping
trips with new purchases in less time than if they
shopped themselves
-
having the right assortment
of clothing for their lifestyle
-
having immediate results in
looking and feeling good about themselves and their
wardrobe

This year celebrates the 60th
anniversary of the bikini. The word, bikini, stems from the
Latin "bi", meaning two and "kini" meaning square inches of
fabric. In 1946, Louis Reard, French automotive engineer who
was running his mother's lingerie business, designed this
two-piece atom sized swimsuit. In the 50's, bikinis were
banned from beauty pageants. The song, "Itsy Bitsy Teenie
Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini" sung by Brian Hyland in 1960
inspired a bikini buying frenzy among American teenagers and
has been favored by young women ever since.

"Your
appraisal of my coloring, body type and style sense was
right-on. I especially appreciate your suggestions for
pairing different items and for making some older pieces
look more up-to-date. I am definitely looking at the things
I wear in a different light now and am striving to dress ten
years younger than my age. Gosh, I am in the 21st
century now. Your consultation was all that I had hoped
for."
