PointerMust Haves

Chase away those rainy days with a colorful trench coat. Perfect for sunny or stormy skies, it looks equally chic over work or casual clothes.

A swimsuit cover-up is a polished alternative over that sloppy t-shirt. Whether you are poolside or wading in the ocean, cover up with a white lacey tunic from J. Valdi or a blue terry cloth halter style from Ralph Lauren (available at Macy’s)

Seasonal Etiquette

A girl can never have too many shoes. Footwear is art for the feet. Try peep-toe sling back pumps, or sandals in citrus shades. Black and white always looks crisp in spectator styles. Natural shades are very flattering
to the leg as the color disappears and elongates
the leg.

Remember the rule…the longer the skirt, the higher the heel to avoid the “cut off at the knee” look.

QuestionFashion Question:

I’m in the process of purchasing a new leather purse. What’s your opinion of white leather purses verses a neutral shade? I LOVE the white one but am nervous about it getting dirty and can I wear it 12 months out of the year?

White handbags are a great addition to the warm weather wardrobe as they look fresh and go with everything. Typically pure white bags were carried Memorial Day through Labor Day only. However, with a creamy white (or winter white), the look carries through from spring to fall.

White bags are reinvented and a have come a long way from the traditional little old ladies’ pocketbooks. Clutch styles, patent leather and chunky hardware breathe new life into white handbags.

Neutral colors such as camel or taupe blend effortlessly with any ensemble and are great year round shades. To inject color into your wardrobe, purchase a handbag centering on the main color of your summer wardrobe (if your wardrobe has a lot of pink in it, buy a pink bag).

Yes, white can be a challenge to keep clean. Simply wipe patent leather with a moist cloth, and then pat dry. For fabrics and leathers, spray with all-weather protector. Scratches on leather can be filled in with white shoe polish. Be sure to keep your white bag sparkly clean otherwise it will downplay your outfit.

Match wallet and small leather accessories to your bag for added fun.

Trends

Trench coats in a myriad of colors and prints welcome spring with freshness. Palettes of pink, smart white and black and white graphic prints jazz up the classic trench coat. Feminine looks are flattering with pencil skirts and ruffled blouses. It’s a season for suits – dressed up in pastel shades of peach and pink. Bright colored totes, handbags and shoes shine in patent leather pink, lime, orange and yellow.  Happy spring into summer!

Success Stories

Wardrobe Woe:  April, who is an independent consultant for a health and wellness company, felt that she was buying her clothing too big and wearing the wrong colors.  She needed business clothing for networking and one-on-one meetings.  Her only suit was six years old.  April admitted to buying clothing on sale, then never wearing them.

“I would like to have complete outfits that fit my body, make me feel comfortable and look professional.  I want to wear colors that bring out my eyes and find outfits that mix and match complete with shoes and accessories.”

The Fashion Fix:  April and I had a mini consultation in her closet before rushing out to the stores to outfit her.  On our initial trip April went home with six tops and sweaters plus one broach totaling $155.  On our second trip, she purchased five jackets (two matched up as suits), one skirt, two pairs of pants, one shirt, three camisoles, one pair of boots, and one pair of earrings.  This totaled $249 (we hit a great sale!

The Testimonial:  “Thank you for an awesome, convenient and enjoyable shopping experience! From my first conversation with you, it was obvious that you’re an expert and had my best interests at heart.

After our first shopping trip, I wore everything we purchased within a week and received tons of compliments.  On our second shopping trip, we got much more than I had anticipated for half of my budget! You helped me select key pieces that I needed to enhance my professional wardrobe, ensuring that these must-have pieces will be with me for a long time.

I greatly appreciated that you respected my tight budget and helped me get the most bang for my buck.”
