Trends

For holiday, the trend is all about luxurious and shimmering items. Metallic can go from day into evening. Gold, silver, or bronze are award winning on everything from fabrics to accessories. Crocheted sweaters and scarves are laced with Lurex yarns. Casual outerwear is paired with the lavishness of velvet gloves, cashmere scarves, and fur collars. Luxe goes casual with faux shearling vests trimmed with faux fur collars.

Just like Santa, red is the color of the season looking festive no matter your destination. Flirty blouses and ruffle trimmed dresses evoke a romantic and vintage feeling. Charms add to the feminine allure dangling from pendants, bracelets, watches and earrings with brands such as RJ Graziano.

For those vacationing in the tropics, resort wear is inspired by the beach. From land to sea, the classic American look sets sail in red, white and blue. Ralph Lauren’s resort group called Capri mixes white and royal with a splash of island pink.

Question

Fashion Question: What is the proper attire for a black tie affair?

The invitation could read black tie preferred, black tie invited or black tie optional for any affair which could include an evening wedding, company function, charity fundraiser or New Year’s Eve party. Formal wear is when all the glitz and glamour can make an appearance.

For men, black tie means tuxedo proper. The traditional tuxedo is represented by a pleated shirt, bow tie and cummerbund. Tuxedo shirts come pleated or plain with French cuffs, a pointed collar or wing tip collar. Pointed collars can be worn with a tie and wing tip collars are worn with a bow tie. A cummerbund is worn with the bow tie and a vest is worn with a Windsor knot
