The color purple is no shrinking
violet. Punch up your wardrobe with THE color of the season.
Purple is pure royalty in a short velvet jacket or a cashmere
sweater. Try just a touch of purple with shades of plum and
aubergine eye shadow.

“Fix” up your wardrobe with a shot
of pure luxury. An elegant brocade
jacket, rich velvet dress or soft cashmere scarf will make you
feel like a million bucks (and you’re worth it). Keep other
components to a minimum and let your lush piece take center
stage. Wear a brocade blazer with tailored trousers and lace
trim blouse.

The arrival of autumn marks the passing of summer footwear – which
means that socks and pantyhose are the rule to naked legs. Match
the style, color and
weight of leg wear to your ensemble and the season. Women:
pantyhose are mandatory in a business environment. Balance the
color value with the outfit (sheer navy hosiery with navy suit
and navy pumps). When in doubt, chose natural skin tones. Avoid
dark hosiery with light shoes, as feet appear to “glow.”
Trouser socks are perfect companions to dress pants. Men: match
socks to the color of pants. Chose textures and patterns for
interest. Replace socks when the
heels get that “window screen” look.

Fall’s
fashion destination is a trip around the world. The first stop is Russia
with trends that include rich fabrics such as paisley, tapestry and
velvet. Elegant trimmings of tassels hang from earlobes to handbag
ornamentation. Next stop is India known for their delicate handiwork and
embellishments. Africa brings us tribal motifs, leafy florals, woven
leather and hand carved wooden jewelry. A little bit of western is
tossed in the mix with equestrian details such as brass hardware,
whip-stitching, and broken-in leather.
Corduroy is a great alternative to denim especially in pants and jean
style jackets.
Who says flowers can’t bloom in the fall? Blossoms of all kinds are
tossed among fabrics. Rosettes adorn hats, scarves, handbags and
jewelry. Cascades of ruffles, peplum jackets, lace inserts, flared
skirts; curvy silhouettes offer feminine fashions without the “too
gussied up” girly look. ■

In
the era of post power suit dressing, many wardrobes still contain suits that are
no longer fashionable or appropriate for today’s lifestyle (i.e.: executive
turned stay-at-home mom). Depending upon the style and detailing, it is possible
to extend the life of the jacket. Although it is hard to break up a happy
couple, many traditionally styled jackets can carry on without their significant
other in the case of a single or double breasted jacket in a classic color. For
example, a navy wool blazer pairs effortlessly with charcoal pants and a French
blue shirt to go from office to dinner or worn with khaki pants for a lunch date
or to the movies.
Some suit pieces strictly belong
together and will look mismatched if trying to wear with other bottoms (i.e.:
odd color

“One
of the best investments I have EVER made! I feel
like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders.
I’m uncluttered, more focused and clear about
what looks right, what fits right, what not to
buy. It’s a new beginning and not just about
clothes. To un-clutter my closet is to
un-clutter my life.”
